| The 15,000 acres of land now comprising
the City of Weston were first amassed in the 1950’s
by Arthur Vining Davis, the original owner of Weston’s
primary developer, Arvida. Over the course of the
ensuing years, plans were prepared as to how the
land would be developed and how that development
would be financed. The development was originally
known as Indian Trace but later it was changed to
Weston. In 1984 the first homes were completed in
Windmill Ranch and Country Isles, and Weston had
its first residents. Weston is the jewel of planned
communities and its comfort and luxury has attracted
celebrities like Dan Marino, the legendary quarterback
of the Miami Dolphins.
Established as a city in 1996, much of the community
was developed by Arvida/JMB Partners and is located
near the western developmental boundary of Broward
County. As of July, 2004, the city had a total
population of 63,534. With a median income for
family of $88,145, Weston is generally considered
to be an upper middle class to a high class living
area offering a variety of housing options, from
comfortable townhomes an villas, to lovely single-family
homes and luxury estate homes.
